Kelilinq 2.0

Kelilinq is a pioneer mobile application specifically tailored for “pedagang keliling” or traveling vendors. These vendors are commonly found around South Easy Asia such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Phillipines. These vendors are most likely the reason why Asian street food became popular.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges is to conduct user research during a pandemic.

Goal

To provide an easy and secure payment between customers and vendors.

Scenario

As an Indonesian, I grew up in a neighborhood where traveling vendors are always around. The problem is, there is no fixed schedule when or where the vendor is going to be.

Problems

• Inconsistent schedule

• Does not have the best hygiene

• Target audience is usually elderly but they are not tech savvy

User analysis

The initial user research was conducted in November 2020. I decided to do my own mini-research by interviewing Indonesian locals from the customer side.

The majority of the participants agree that hygiene is the number one problem followed by the lack of online presence.

Super apps like gojek and grab have been the leading business to connect customers with food vendors. Therefore, it is crucial for Kelilinq to focus on a specialized product instead of competing with the existing behemoth brand.

Logo

In Indonesia, it is very common to find traveling vendor to stop in certain area to sell their products by sitting down on a stool. The logo was inspired by a vendor sitting down on a stool offering his goods. The two circle at the top and bottom symbolized the head and the stool, while the legs of the ‘K’ represent the vendor’s limbs.

I have created a purple version to have a variation for different usage. I have decided to go with a more feminine approach by using subdued colors with a slight gradient color.

Reflection

It was a bummer to realize the first time that even though there are still customers who buys stuff from traveling vendors, they don’t really use a smartphone to order them. The initial idea for this project was to clean up a few interfaces from the previous design and focus more on the website. But in the end, I got an itch in my brain to throw away the entire design and start from scratch again. It was interesting to find out what I have discovered.
